主讲(jiang)人简介:

苏索才(cai),美国文(wen)学(xue)(xue)博士,美国芝加(jia)哥(ge)城市学(xue)(xue)院教授,教授《文(wen)学(xue)(xue)入(ru)门》、《美国现代文(wen)学(xue)(xue)》、《美国当代文(wen)学(xue)(xue)》和《高级英文(wen)写(xie)作》等课程。1983 年(nian)考(kao)入西安外国语大学英文系,1990年毕(bi)业,获英(ying)语语言和文学硕士学位并留校任教(jiao)。1997年留(liu)学美国,先后就(jiu)读于鲍林格林州立大(da)学 (Bowling Green State University) 和印第安(an)那博尔(er)州立大学(xue) (Ball State University),获美国(guo)文学硕士(shi)和博士(shi)学位。2004年(nian)受(shou)聘芝加哥城(cheng)市学院 (The City Colleges of Chicago),现为该院(yuan)终(zhong)身教授(shou)。在(zai)《外(wai)(wai)语(yu)教学》、《西安外(wai)(wai)国(guo)(guo)语(yu)学院(yuan)学报》、《外(wai)(wai)国(guo)(guo)文(wen)学》、《英语(yu)世界》、《留学生(sheng)》、《神州学人》、《中国(guo)(guo)研究(jiu)(jiu)生(sheng)》、中国(guo)(guo)翻译网、散文(wen)网和美国(guo)(guo)期刊《后殖民研究(jiu)(jiu)》(JOUVERT: A Journal of Postcolonial Studies)、《美国文(wen)学教(jiao)学研究》(PALS: Pedagogy and American Literary Studies)、《宗族研究(jiu)》(Ethnic Studies)、《世(shi)界周刊》、《融入美国(guo)》(Madeintoamerica.org)等刊(kan)物有多篇文章发表。

讲座内(nei)容简介:

The Bible, consisting of the Old Testament and the New Testament in 66 volumes, is the mostly read and translated book in the world. Written between 1450 B.C.-97 A.D. , it is a library of oracles, prophesies, history, law, proverbs, poems, folk tales, and narrative stories. As the foundation of western civilization, it has influenced the whole world, mostly the western world on its political system, culture, society, faith, literature, art, and music in the past 2000 years. Biblical literacy is essential to the Chinese students, mostly those who study English and its history and literature, to their understanding of the western political system, social structure, cultural tradition, religious belief, and artistic and literary production. Meanwhile, the Bible is also a literary master piece that has narratives, psalms, love poems, epistles, prophetic and apocalyptic writings, whose subjects and styles of writing have had great impact on the language, themes, and forms of western literary creation. This presentation will focus on the literary achievements of the Bible. It will cover 1) A survey of the Bible; 2) The Bible as literature; 3) Well-known literary pieces in the Bible: Job, Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, and Song of Solomon; 4) How to read the Bible as literature. The presentation will give students a synopsis of the Bible, help them to understand the literary achievements of the Bible, familiarize them with the content and style of major literary works in the Bible, and provide them with specific skills to read the Bible as literature.

英语《圣经》分(fen)《旧约(yue)》和《新约(yue)》两部分(fen),共66卷,最早的写于公(gong)元(yuan)前1500年,最晚的(de)写于公元(yuan)后(hou)97年,距今4000多年,是(shi)集神话(hua)、寓言、启示录、历史、法律、小说(shuo)、诗歌、散文、信函等(deng)一体(ti)(ti)的(de)一座精深博大的(de)图书馆2000多年来对世界,特(te)别是西方(fang)(fang)(fang)社会(hui)(hui)的政(zheng)治(zhi)、文(wen)(wen)化(hua)、伦理(li)、信仰(yang)、文(wen)(wen)学(xue)(xue)、艺术、音乐产生(sheng)(sheng)了巨(ju)大(da)的影响(xiang),被认为(wei)是西方(fang)(fang)(fang)文(wen)(wen)明的奠基石。了解《圣经》对当代的中(zhong)国(guo)大(da)学(xue)(xue)生(sheng)(sheng),特(te)别是英语专业的学(xue)(xue)生(sheng)(sheng),非常重要(yao)(yao)和(he)必(bi)要(yao)(yao),是他们(men)了解英语国(guo)家如美国(guo)、英国(guo)、加拿大(da)、澳大(da)利亚等国(guo)家社会(hui)(hui)制度、政(zheng)治(zhi)体系(xi)、文(wen)(wen)化(hua)传(chuan)统和(he)精(jing)神信仰(yang)的重要(yao)(yao)入口。基于此,本讲(jiang)(jiang)座会(hui)(hui)对英语《圣经》的写作过程、内容特(te)点、历史背景和(he)重要(yao)(yao)性做简单介绍;同时,英语《圣经》又是西方(fang)(fang)(fang)文(wen)(wen)学(xue)(xue)精(jing)品(pin)(pin)中(zhong)的精(jing)品(pin)(pin),本讲(jiang)(jiang)座集中(zhong)讲(jiang)(jiang)授《约(yue)伯(bo)记》、《诗篇》、《箴(zhen)言》、《传(chuan)道书》、《雅歌(ge)》五部文(wen)(wen)学(xue)(xue)经典(dian)。它们(men)中(zhong)生(sheng)(sheng)动感人的故事、真挚(zhi)动情的赞(zan)美诗篇、充满智慧的箴(zhen)言、忠贞热(re)情的爱情赞(zan)歌(ge)和(he)对人生(sheng)(sheng)意义的终极追问几千年来让读者(zhe)百(bai)读不厌,赞(zan)不绝口,是(shi)学(xue)(xue)(xue)习(xi)英语和英语文(wen)学(xue)(xue)(xue)的绝好教材。最后还会(hui)对中国(guo)学(xue)(xue)(xue)生阅读英语《圣经(jing)》文(wen)学(xue)(xue)(xue)提出(chu)具体建议。
